The “king” of fast food is unseated – The foods that win souvlaki

Sandwiches and burgers seem to be… eating the souvlaki. Greek consumers give a vote of confidence in fast food, as despite the successive crises the domestic market is developing rapidly.

Regarding the foods they prefer to buy outside, according to a study by ICAP CRIF, the biggest increase in sales in the period 2020-2021 was recorded by snacks and sandwiches (+13.5%), followed by burgers (+ 6%) and pizza (+5%), while other categories, such as souvlaki, showed a positive sign.

Regarding the distribution of the market by store category, the largest percentage in the total sales of the sector has been occupied over time, as reported by the research presented by the “Eleftheros Typos” newspaper, the category of snacks and sandwiches with the percentage amounting to 37.6%. Next is the burger category with a 27.4% share, followed by pizza with a 22.1% share.

The other chains (stores that offer items based on chicken, crepe, donut, etc.) control about 10% of the market.
