Shocking prices of olive oil

Olive oil is a central topic of discussion this year, as its price has skyrocketed and its purchase often creates a dilemma for consumers. According to a recent OPEN report, the “first” new crop of high quality olive oil in Ilia left producers with a 120% increase compared to 2021, reaching 9.25 euros per litre.

At the same time, the price of the tin has reached the heights, since compared to previous years when it was sold from 60 to 80 euros, this year the bulk oil is expected to cost 160 to 180 euros a tin. The general situation has elevated olive oil to a luxury item and it has even been observed that anti-theft systems are being placed on the shelves. Checks are ongoing and several cases of fraud have come to the attention of the authorities. A well-known supermarket chain has even set a ceiling on the purchase of olive oil, as its customers can buy up to 3 pieces of all four and five litre olive oils and up to 4 pieces of all one and two litre olive oils. There are, of course, more than a few consumers who claim obscenity.
